Understanding Pirelli’s move towards 5G Tyres
The advent of the 5G in the world has been for a long time. When we think of 5G, the only thing that comes in our mind is the super-fast internet connectivity because of which we may be able to download our favourite games and apps in milliseconds. The use of 5G is not only limited to the use of smartphones. In today's time, the 5G network is being used in the tyres what we can also call as cyber tyres. With the arrival of 5G, efforts are being put into integrating the automobile industry and the world of the internet.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF 5G WHEELS?
5G wheels or cyber tyres give birth to something called the connected cars. Till now, we have always seen cars with good tyre tread and high-quality engine oils. But now we have tyres that can communicate with the driver about the road conditions. It is a network of connected systems that together help in guidance.
The cyber tyres send data from the roads and transmit the necessary information to the person that is driving.
The Pirelli Tyres are equipped with sensors that caution someone of the risks of hydroplaning by communicating with the surroundings.
5G tyres provide Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) services to the driver which guide them with parking functions and look after road safety.
Also, the ADAS warns the driver beforehand if it detects another car being too close in front of it so that the driver is alerted and steers through the road safely.
The 5G cyber Tyres also make sure about the traffic management which increases safety and performance.
They have low latency value. Latency value refers to the time taken for the data to be transmitted from one point to the other. The lower, the latency value, the less time it will take for the information to get processed and accessed.
It also monitors the dynamic load and the miles travelled. Dynamic load refers to the force with which the car is moving on the road.
They can also sense different surfaces like ice and water. They also provide audio and visual images of the hazards immediately. The coefficient of friction also matters. Wet roads may have coefficient friction of 0.4 than dry roads which have 0.7. So, these 5G tyres prepare a person to drive under such unfavourable road conditions.
The unique feature about these tyres is the vehicle to vehicle communications. In V2V communications, one is alerted about the surrounding cars, their speeds and positions. This helps in avoiding bumping, dents on the car as a result of crashing and accidents.
Another feature is also known as V2X communication, which means a vehicle to everything communications. The V2X communication takes care of higher-bandwidth, low latency and high-reliability services. High bandwidth is the speed with which the users can upload a particular data and the speed with which they have access to it.
Today, every new car that you see in the market is equipped with the anti-brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) and these tyres automatically respond to these systems which are responsible for maintaining contact with the roads when it starts skidding and slow down when needed, typically during harsh conditions.
This integration of Pirelli Tyres with 5G would lead to digital transformation in the world.
